John Lennon with May Pang, his girlfriend during the “lost weekend” period in which he was separated from Yoko Ono for 18 months. During this period, Pang, who had been Lennon and Ono’s general factotum, helped John get his life back together, his career back together, and organized not only a mending of broken fences with Paul, but also with his son, Julian, whom he hadn’t seen for the four years previous. Pang’s relationship with John was also instigated by Ono, who liked Pang and knew that John should start seeing other women during their split. Publicly John would later call the “lost weekend” period a mistake but was known to say in private that he was the happiest in his life while with Pang.
His song “Surprise, Surprise (The Sweet Bird Of Paradox)” is about Pang.
